November 2022 saw a decline in the sales of compact SUVs when compared to the numbers reported in the month that preceded it. As always, the Hyundai Creta retained the segment leadership followed by the Kia Seltos.
The newest entrant, the Maruti Grand Vitara, had a great start but was left behind by the Mahindra Scorpio in the last month of 2022. Here’s how each of the eight compact SUVs fared in November:

- Hyundai Creta experienced 12 percent month-on-month (MoM) sales growth, but its market share declined by 10 percent as compared to November 2021.
- The runner-up is the Kia Seltos, which sold 9,284 units in November. It saw a decline of five per cent and 14 per cent in month-wise sales as well as year-on-year (YoY) market share, respectively.
- The Mahindra Scorpio fell back to its usual third position as the segment-leader, selling half as many units. With a 1,000-unit drop in sales, it maintains an average sales of over 6,000 units per month. Note that the total sales number includes both the Scorpio Classic and the Scorpio N.
- The latest compact SUV, the Grand Vitara saw a drop of nearly 50 per cent in monthly sales to over 3,500 units. Its Toyota counterpart, the Header, fell short by around 1,300 units and grabbed the fifth position. Maruti SUVs have a market share of over 10.5 per cent, while Haider has a 7.41 per cent share.
- The Skoda Kushaq and the Volkswagen Taigun clocked close to 2,000 units in November. The former saw sales rise by nearly 20 percent in October 2022, but the Taigun saw a decline of 16 percent. Both managed to maintain average sales of 1,500 to 2,000 units a month.
- MG sold around 1,500 units of the Astor in November, registering a 20 per cent decline in sales.
- While the Nissan Kicks remained the lowest-selling compact SUV for a while, its numbers fell to single digits in November with only three units sold.
