The MG 4 EV has scored an impressive 5-star rating in the latest round of Euro NCAP safety tests. The mid-size electric hatchback was unveiled in July this year and MG India will showcase the MG 4 EV at the upcoming Auto Expo 2023.
The MG 4 EV hatchback, if launched in India, will compete with the BYD Atto 3 and the upcoming Kona Electric facelift.

The MG 4 EV scored 83 percent in the adult occupant test, scoring 31.6 out of 38 points. It also scored 80 percent in the child occupant test, scoring 39.5 out of 49. MG’s EV hatchback scored 78 per cent in the safety system test, scoring 12.6 out of 16 points. MG 4 had a minimum score of 75 percent. Vulnerable road users test, scored 40.6 out of 54. While the car tested was left-hand drive, the rating applies for the right-hand drive version as well.
BYD Atto 3 has also received a 5-star rating in the Euro NCAP safety tests. In comparison, BYD had better scores in the adult occupant and child occupant tests, with scores of 91 and 89 percent, respectively. However, in the tests for unprotected road users and safety systems, the Eto 3 scored slightly lower than the 4EV, with 69 and 74 percent, respectively.
MG 4 EV: What is It?
The MG 4 EV is a born electric vehicle based on parent company SAIC’s modular scalable platform where the battery pack is an integral part of the platform structure. The MG 4 is available with two battery packs – 51kWh and 64kWh. While the former produces 170hp, the latter produces 203hp. Torque output for both is rated at 250Nm and both come with single-motor, rear-wheel-drive configurations.
In terms of charging, using a 7kW AC charger, the MG 4 EV’s battery can top up from 10 percent to 100 percent in 7.5 hours and 9 hours for the 51kWh and 64kWh battery packs, respectively. However, using the 150kW charger, the battery can be charged from 10 percent to 80 percent in 35 minutes and 39 minutes, respectively.
MG 4 EV: India launch Details
MG India is currently evaluating a market launch for the 4EV and it could come here as a completely built unit (CBU) or a completely knocked down unit (CKD). Talking about India, MG 4 EV can be launched after Air EV.
