To oppose the ban on BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel vehicles in Delhi, transporters associations on Monday reported holding massive protests against the Aam Aadmi Party governments in Delhi and Punjab. He announced road blockades in Delhi and Punjab to protest against the vehicle ban decision.

The announcement was made after a meeting of the Delhi Taxi and Tourist Transporters Association on Monday. After the meeting, he told that many tourists and taxis come to Delhi from Punjab.

Transporters claimed that this decision of the Delhi government is a conspiracy to affect tourism. He said that the Delhi government had banned BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel as part of its plan.

Significantly, in view of the increasing air pollution in the city, the Delhi government on Monday banned BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel four-wheelers in the city till December 9. The decision was taken by the Centre’s air quality panel under Phase III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).

The sub-committee for the implementation of GRAP held a meeting on Sunday to review the air quality scenario in the city and take into account the future state of pollution by reviewing meteorological conditions and forecasts of Delhi’s air quality index.

The air quality in Delhi remained in the ‘very poor category for the last six days. The air quality remained in the ‘very poor category on Sunday morning with the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 328 by the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR).

The air quality is considered to be in good condition when its AQI falls between 0 and 100. On the other hand, an AQI between 100 and 200 indicates moderate air quality. An AQI between 200-300 indicates poor air and an AQI between 300 and 400 indicates ‘very poor’ air quality. The air quality becomes critical when its AQI falls between 400-500.
